Following a burn injury, patients experience severe inflammation and prolonged hypermetabolism which lead to alterations in nutrient requirements. Timely provision of adequate nutrition is vital to healing, yet few up-to-date guidelines exist. To fill this gap, Registered Dietitians from burn units across Canada have developed comprehensive evidence-based and practice-informed recommendations to guide clinicians from the initial determination of calorie, protein and micronutrient needs to the ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and modification of the nutrition care plan to support recovery from burn injury.
