Abstract: While many patients receiving hospice and palliative care do achieve wound healing, there are times when wound healing is not a realistic expectation, and the goals of care need to shift to symptom management. Symptoms to be managed may include wound pain, odour, bleeding and/or excessive exudate. Non-healing wounds may include malignant wounds and extensive vascular wounds. Four scenarios are presented.
