Abstract: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a significant source of morbidity in adults with diabetes mellitus (DM). In people with DM, standard treatments have often proven insufficient to achieve healing in a satisfactory timeframe. Furthermore, colonization by microorganisms can prolong the wound’s inflammatory phase and trigger excessive granulation, also known as hypergranulation which delays the healing process. With the advent of new adjunct technologies for wound treatment, neweroptions should be tested in the treatment of hypergranulation. This study looks at the antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) associated with Mesalt® (Mölnlycke)*, a technological dressing specifically designed to treat excessive granulation.
